Let's see how the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 stacks up against the Ford F-150.
ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
Even though the Ford F-150 is the best-selling truck in America, the Chevy Silverado 1500 gives it a real run for its money. The 2015 Silverado 1500 comes with 3 engine configurations - the 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 with 285 horses of power and 305 pound-feet of torque; a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 with a huge 355hp and a 383 pound-feet of torque, and a 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 with a whopping 420hp and 460 pounds of torque. All engines are paired with 6-speed automatic transmission with a tow/haul mode to increase efficiency. The F-150 comes with 4 engine choices -- a 3.5L V6 with 325hp, a 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost with 365hp and 282hp, respectively and a 5.0L V8 with 385hp. A 6-speed auto transmission is available on the F-150. The Silverado 1500 clearly has the most powerful engine in the 6.2L Ecotec3.
CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 DIMENSIONS VS FORD F-150 DIMENSIONS
The 2015 Silverado wins the battle for taller drivers and a more comfortable ride. With 42.4-inches of front headroom vs. 40.8-inches for the F-150, that's almost 2 inches more of head space for the driver and passenger. Legroom is also at a premium in the Silverado 1500 at 45.3 inches compared with the F-150's 43.9. The exterior cargo length is also slightly longer in the Silverado 1500, with 78.9-inches of room in the bed vs. the F-150's 78 inches. While that may seem miniscule, when you've got long cargo in your bed and you need to close the cargo door, that extra inch makes a big difference.
DESIGN AND FEATURES
Luxurious and well-appointed, you won't feel like you're in a workhorse pickup truck when you sit in the cabin of the 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500. Interior features include optional leather seating, front armrests with storage, and audio system with 4.2-inch color screen and 4 speakers, and steering-wheel mounted cruise control. The F-150 does not come with standard daytime running lights or cruise control like the Silverado 1500.
