2022 Chevrolet Equinox Review, Pricing, and Specs

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is among the most popular compact crossovers, but mass consumption doesn’t mean it’s truly compelling. Sure, the Chevy has plentiful passenger room, a feature laden infotainment system, and athletic handling. However, it falls short in terms of interior quality and storage space compared with its competitors.

While all-wheel drive is optional, all Equinox models are powered by the same turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The more luxurious trim levels push prices into expensive territory but people who are committed to the bow-tie brand and unfazed by mediocrity will appreciate the 2022 Equinox.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox Premier

What’s New for 2022?

A refreshed front end highlights the changes to the 2022 Equinox. The makeover brings more distinctive headlights, a new grille design, and updated front and rear bumpers. Chevy also adds an RS model, which includes sporty styling cues such as dark 19-inch wheels and blacked-out exterior trim. Its interior boasts a unique shift knob, red stitching, and black upholstery.

The top-tier Premier also has spiffier cabin details, such as French stitching and gloss-black trim on the console. The more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is no longer offered, leaving the turbo 1.5-liter engine as the sole offering. This update to Chevy’s compact SUV was originally intended for the 2021 model year, but has been delayed to 2022 because of the global Coronavirus pandemic.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Although the Equinox lineup adds the stylized Equinox RS near the top of the pecking order, we’d still recommend the mid-level LT. It comes standard with chrome exterior trim, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, high intensity discharge headlights, SiriusXM satellite radio, and more. We’d also opt for the Confidence and Convenience package, which includes blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power liftgate, rear cross-traffic alert, and remote start.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox's Ecotec Engine.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Underpowered and frequently out of breath, the Equinox’s turbo four-cylinder engine won’t win any fans with its sluggish performance. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder makes 170 horsepower, and when paired with the optional (and heavier) all-wheel-drive system (front-wheel drive is standard), it takes a heavy foot to hustle the Equinox up to highway speeds.

The standard six-speed automatic shifts seamlessly, and in the interest of fuel economy, the gearbox is reluctant to downshift when extra power is needed. Agreeable and easy to drive, the Equinox handles competently, and its steering is accurate and direct. The ride is a bit harsh, particularly with the optional 19-inch wheels (17s or 18s are standard), and rougher stretches of road transmit some unpleasantness into the cabin. The Chevy can also tow up to 3500 pounds, when properly equipped.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates that the front-wheel-drive 2022 Chevy Equinox will earn 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Adding all-wheel drive reduces both ratings by 1 mpg. We subjected the Equinox to our 75-mph real-world fuel economy test route and with front-wheel drive, it returned 32 mpg on the highway; we saw 28 mpg with all-wheel-drive version. For more information about the Equinox’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Made from durable materials and nicely styled, the Equinox’s cabin should inspire broad appeal. Both front- and rear-seat passengers should find themselves comfortable in the spacious interior, with enough luxuries to keep them content on longer trips. The cabin features plenty of cupholders, but most interior luxuries are offered as standard or optional equipment on higher trim levels; the base Equinox L is a price leader with very few features.

Some rivals offer more space behind the rear seats, but we still managed to fit eight of our carry-on suitcases back there. Aside from a capacious center console storage bin, the Equinox’s cabin storage is merely average.

Infotainment System inside the all new 2022 Chevrolet Equinox.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A 7.0-inch touchscreen (an 8.0-inch unit is optional) displays Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment interface atop the Equinox’s dash; the system continues to impress with its ease of use and quick responses. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as are Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, USB connectivity, and an auxiliary input jack. Standard 4G LTE onboard Wi-Fi makes the Equinox one of the best-connected crossovers.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

The Equinox comes with a wide range of standard and optional driver assistance technology. For more information about the Equinox’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  •  Standard lane-keeping assist with lane departure warning
  •  Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Chevy’s basic warranty package is just that—basic—but so is the coverage of its competitors. The Kia Sportage and its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Tucson, both offer longer protection plans. Chevy also provides one free dealer maintenance visit within the first year of ownership, which is a nice perk.

  •  Limited warranty covers 3 years or 36,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV parked at Stuart Beach

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV Review Pricing and Specs

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV not only looks more exciting inside and out, the redesigned electric hatchback also has enhanced features and a much cheaper asking price. While the most noticeable changes are its futuristic sheet metal and freshly refinished cabin, it still employs a front drive only powertrain that delivers near-instant acceleration.

Chevy estimates the 2022 Bolt EV can travel up to 259 miles on a full charge. That gives it a slight advantage over the excellent Hyundai Kona Electric, but it still falls far short of the Tesla Model 3.

However, the new Bolt’s accessible price, roomy interior, and satisfying driving dynamics should be strong selling points. Those who want a more SUV-like model with additional back-seat space and available Super Cruise hands-free driving will be drawn to the all-new 2022 Bolt EUV.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV view of dashboard from passenger seat.

What’s New for 2022?

The 2022 Bolt EV undergoes a comprehensive redesign that includes updated exterior and interior styling. While its electrical and mechanical components remain the same as before, the hatchback adds a newly available dual-level charging cord as well as an increased Level 2 (240-volt) maximum charging capability. Perhaps most notably, maybe amazingly, the new and improved Bolt EV has a starting price that’s $5500 lower than the previous model’s which opened at $37,495.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Chevy has announced that the 2022 Bolt EV’s base price is significantly lower than last year, but so far it hasn’t revealed pricing for individual options or higher trim levels. We expect full pricing details will be released before it goes on sale this summer, at which time we’ll be able to recommend which one to buy.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV electric motor.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Although we have not driven the 2022 Bolt EV electric car, its powertrain and chassis are identical to older models that we have piloted. Its electric motor still sends 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque exclusively to the front wheels. This setup provides instantaneous response to accelerator inputs and ample low-end torque that lets you shoot off the line when the light turns green. Responses are less immediate at highway speeds, but the new electric Chevy should still make passing and merging on the highway a cinch.

We anticipate that it will again deliver a composed ride and plenty of power—and a pleasant enough driving demeanor to challenge whatever negative preconceptions you might have about electric vehicles. There’s also a one pedal driving mode activated via a button on the center console—that increases regenerative braking to the point where you rarely need to use the brakes to slow down.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV range settings on gauge cluster.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

Chevy estimates the 2022 model has a driving range of 259 miles on a full charge. That matches the EPA rating for the previous model year, and it’s competitive with other similarly priced EVs such as the Hyundai Kona Electric. While the Tesla Model 3 Long Range can travel up to 353 miles on one charge, it costs considerably more.

For 2022, the Bolt EV is now available with a dual-level charging cord that plugs into both Level 1 (120-volt) and Level 2 (240-volt) outlets, which Chevy says will eliminate the need for many owners to buy a separate home charger. The Bolt’s maximum Level 2 charging speed also increase to 11 kW, allowing the battery to fully charge in seven hours. The electrified hatchback is still available with DC fast charging that can add about 100 miles of range every 30 minutes with a Level 3 connection.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Although the 2022 Bolt EV has the same battery pack and electric motor as the previous model year, Chevy hasn’t announced its official MPGe rating, and we also haven’t had the chance to test one on our 75-mph highway route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen. However, the last Bolt EV we evaluated achieved 102 MPGe in our real-world test, which translates to a highway range of 180 miles.

You can expect to see significantly better range if you stick to lower speeds around town. In fact, during an unorthodox range test in California’s Death Valley, we were able to exceed the EPA’s 259-mile estimated driving range in the real world. For more information about the Bolt EV’s efficiency, visit the EPA’s website.

Chevrolet Bolt EV Cargo Trunk Space

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Chevy spruces up the Bolt EV’s cabin with a more upscale design that the company says includes better materials than before and more soft-touch surfaces. The steering wheel now features a flat-bottom, the driver faces a new 8.0-inch fully digital gauge cluster, and the old electronic shifter is replaced by a set of pull toggles and push buttons. There is even a section on the console that wirelessly charges your phones.

Although the updated Bolt EV has the same passenger space as before, including a back seat that’s roomy enough for two adults, it does have redesigned front seats that are said to be more comfortable. The hatchback’s rear cargo space still measures 17 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 57 cubes with those rear seatbacks folded flat.

View of navigation system inside the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Every Bolt EV features a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with popular standard features, such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A subscription based Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless smartphone charging are also available. Complementing the touch controls are physical knobs for volume and tuning as well as a shortcut button for the home screen. The Chevy’s infotainment system allows over-the-air updates and includes built-in apps that are compatible with Amazon Alexa and Spotify music streaming services.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

The 2022 Bolt EV boasts a roster of standard and optional driver assistance technology. Along with standard automatic high-beams and front pedestrian detection, the hatchback can be equipped with a 360-degree camera system and rear cross-traffic alert. For more information about the Bolt EV’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard forward collision warning and automated emergency braking
  •  Standard lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  •  Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Chevrolet provides standard coverage limits for the Bolt’s electric powertrain components. It also includes the first maintenance visit, but overall coverage doesn’t come close to that of Hyundai.

  •  Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers eight years or 100,00 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance covers one scheduled visit

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer sits in a Stuart, FL driveway just purchased from Wallace Chevrolet.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Review, Pricing, and Specs

With a fierce face and chiseled bodywork, the 2022 Chevy Blazer is arguably the most assertive-looking mid-size crossover in its class. The visual sportiness continues inside with a design inspired by Chevy’s iconic muscle car, the Camaro. Sure, the two-row SUV doesn’t offer a thunderous V-8, but its optional 308-hp V-6 provides strong enough thrust. A 228-hp turbo four-cylinder is the base engine, and all models offer front- or all-wheel drive, but no combination is very fuel efficient. Still, compared with most of its two- and three-row classmates, the Blazer is better to drive thanks to accurate steering, confident cornering stability, and strong brakes. Although it boasts lots of space for people and cargo, the cabin suffers from some cheap bits, and outward visibility is compromised. With pricey upper trim levels that hoard the most desirable features, the 2022 Blazer also isn’t a great value.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Newly Redesigned Interior

What’s New for 2022?

For 2022, the Blazer is dropping the previously standard 193-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This means the lineup no longer features the L or 1LT trim levels, and the turbo 2.0 four-cylinder now becomes the standard engine. Models with this mill and all-wheel drive now come standard with the Trailering package; it’s optional on front-drive examples. The paint palette adds two new metallic hues: Nitro Yellow and Blue Glow. All but the top-of-the-line Premier trim are now available with a contrasting-color roof. The Premier is available with an Enhanced Convenience package now, too.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Chevy hasn’t yet announced pricing for the 2022 Blazer lineup, but the company has confirmed that it’ll no longer offer a base L model. Instead, the 2LT will represent the entry point and the 3LT will offer even more features–for a price. We’ll have to wait until we know how much each Blazer trim will cost until we can recommend a specific configuration.

2022 Chevy Trailblazer Engine Specs

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Blazer features a standard a 228-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and an optional 308-hp 3.6-liter V-6. Both pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. The front-drive, turbo-four version has sufficient power for getting around town and highway duty. However, the V-6 delivers impressive acceleration and provides added confidence when passing on the highway. Quick as the last Blazer RS we tested was, the automatic transmission was slow to downshift when we wanted a quick burst of acceleration. The four-cylinder can tow up to 1500 pounds, while the V-6 version can handle up to 4500 pounds. With steady composure and accurate steering, the Blazer is easily the best-driving crossover to wear the Chevrolet bow tie. It was confident and responsive on twisty sections of road, especially the RS model, which has exclusive steering and suspension tuning. Even without the sportier setup found on the RS, the Blazer is more engaging than many competitors. Its standard 18-inch wheel-and-tire combo provided a smoother and quieter ride than the RS model that wore large 21-inchers, which thudded over bumpy roads. Thankfully, both models remained hushed on even surfaces and at highway speed. The steering’s precise feedback was satisfying during spirited sessions yet fluid at low speed. The firm brake pedal immediately responded to our inputs, and the brakes brought our Blazer RS test vehicle to a stop from 70 mph in an impressive 165 feet.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The Blazer with the standard turbo four is rated at up to 22 mpg city and 29 highway. The V-6 version is slightly thirstier, with estimates up to 20 mpg city and 27 highway. We haven’t tested the four-cylinder version on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, but the all-wheel-drive, V-6 Blazer earned 24 mpg during our real-world test. The Honda Passport and Hyundai Santa Fe both earned 27 mpg in the same test. For more information about the Blazer’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

2022 Chevy Blazer Interior view from outside driver door

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Inside, the Blazer design is heavily inspired by the Chevy Camaro, with an intuitive climate-control system that features round air vents below the center stack. These vents can be twisted to adjust the temperature settings. The visual flourishes include soft-touch plastics and a two-tone color scheme. While the fancier models receive leather surfaces and flashier materials, our mid-level test car had several cheap pieces and mostly grayscale colors. The Blazer also offers desirable content, such as ambient interior lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. The front seats on our test vehicle had small cushions that lacked support, but the back seat had plenty of stretch-out space that should comfort everyone on long trips. With 31 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 64 with the seats folded, we were able to fit 11 and 26 carry-on suitcases, respectively. There are several storage solutions for small items, including ledges on the front-door panels that are perfect for smartphones. There’s a decent-size cubby at the front of the center console, too, and the bin has good space, albeit without organization. The back seat is less remarkable, with a bin at the back of the center console and small door pockets.

2022 Chevy Trailblazer Infotainment Syste

Infotainment and Connectivity

Every Blazer comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The system’s interface is attractive and easy to operate, but a rotary controller would be helpful to reduce distractions. A pair of USB ports located at the front and on the back of the center console are standard; a 120-volt outlet is also available on certain models. The Blazer also can be equipped with a Wi-Fi hotspot, eight-speaker Bose audio system, built-in navigation, and wireless charging for phones.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Chevy equips every Blazer with standard driver-assistance technology that includes forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking, automatic high-beams, and more. There are also other optional driver assists, and the top trims come with the most standard content. For more information about the Blazer’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  •  Available blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert
  •  Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The Blazer has the typical Chevrolet warranty plan that includes competitive limited and powertrain coverage as well as one complimentary maintenance visit. It also has five years or 60,000 miles of roadside assistance.

  •  Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first year

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 near Stuart, FL

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Pricing, Review, and Specs

Now that the bubble of anticipation surrounding the mid-engine Corvette has burst, excitement is building for the even-mightier Z06 model. With an exotic flat-plane-crank V-8 engine, the 2022 Chevy Corvette Z06 will sound unlike any Vette that’s come before. It’ll also look meaner than the mainstream C8 thanks to flared fenders, larger air scoops, and aerodynamic addendum that actively adjusts to maximize high-speed downforce and cornering traction.

Along with its exclusive powertrain and enhanced appearance, the super Chevy will inherit all the best features and technology from the regular model. Although we still don’t have all the juicy details about the new Z06, here’s what we know so far.

Drivers view of dashboard inside the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Drivers view of dashboard inside the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

What’s New for 2022?

The first mid-engine Corvette Z06 is expected to go on sale in early 2021 as a 2022 model. As is tradition, it’s a more hardcore, track-focused version of the standard Vette, complete with bolder styling cues and serious performance attributes.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

It should make sense that, since Chevy hasn’t officially revealed the new Corvette Z06, we can only speculate on how much it’ll cost. Its front-engine predecessor started at about $25,000 more than the base model, so we think it’s safe to add that number to the starting price of the 2021 Corvette models, which starts at $59,995. That means the 2022 Z06 should open at around $85,000 when it eventually goes on sale.

Currently, you can head to your local Chevrolet dealership which lucky for you is Wallace Chevrolet in beautiful sunny Stuart, Florida. Stop by or call them today to test-drive a new Chevy Corvette. Lately the only way to get a new Corvette Stingray is to order one or put your name on a list. However there are a couple 1LT and 2LT versions available on the lot that you can take home for a great price!

Picture of the mid-engine inside the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 at Wallace Chevrolet.

Mid-Engine V8 in the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The upcoming Corvette Z06 will receive a special engine that should make it sound similar to the supercars it’s trying to dethrone. The naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V-8 features a flat-plane crank, which means it should rev to between 8500 and 9000 rpm. This engine is expected to make over 600 horsepower, and it’s Ferrari like howl is all but guaranteed to send shivers down the spine of bystanders.

The unconventional V-8 will hook up to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Considering that the 495-hp 2020 Corvette Z51 we tested rocketed from zero to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and completed the standing quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph, the Z06 will be even quicker in a straight line.

A set of wider, stickier tires and more powerful brakes will help it corner harder and stop shorter than the regular Vette, too. Chevy will also strengthen the structure and recalibrate the suspension tune on the Z06 to help make sure its performance advantages are most obvious at the racetrack. A host of active aerodynamics that automatically adjust to optimize downforce will join the party for this new generation.

There are a few goodies that are optional on the new Z06 such as carbon fiber wheels, magnetic ride control, a larger rear wing, and possibly a twin turbo performance package that will be optional from the dealership on the C8 Z06 with a 5.5-liter v8 engine for the 2022 model year coming out.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Neither Chevy nor the EPA have indicated how efficient—or inefficient the 2022 Corvette Z06 will be in the city and on the highway. Since the company’s flat-plane-crank V-8 is currently only found in the Corvette C8.R race car, we don’t have any government ratings for comparison.

Once the Z06’s fuel economy figures are released, and we have the opportunity to test one on our 75-mph highway route, we can evaluate its real-world mpg. For more information about the Corvette Z06’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

Birdseye view of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Bow Tie brand went above and beyond to ensure that the mid-engine Corvette’s interior could not be called boring. While the design certainly transcends what’s found on every other Chevy model, the square steering wheel and wall of climate control buttons on the center console are unusual elements, to say the least. Still, the cabin layout caters to the driver, and the list of standard and optional features is extensive.

This includes a 12.0-inch fully digital gauge cluster, a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, and wireless charging. All of this and more will continue inside the new Z06. We expect its track-worthiness to be made apparent through additional carbon-fiber and micro suede interior accents as well as a set of even more aggressively bolstered seats. The Corvette’s capacious rear trunk should continue to provide a spot for drivers to carry two sets of golf clubs.

Infotainment System inside 2022 Chevrolet Corvette.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z07 Infotainment System

Infotainment and Connectivity

Cooked into the Corvette’s multilayered dashboard is an 8.0-inch touchscreen that supports Chevy’s Infotainment 3 Plus system. While we’ve only had minimal exposure to this specific setup, we found it to be mostly intuitive and responsive. We’re confident the Z06 will share the same interface and features, which include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Likewise, two separate Bose stereos are expected to be offered: a standard 10-speaker system and an optional 14-speaker setup. The new Z06 will continue to offer the Performance Data Recorder, which allows you to record video of everything from your track exploits to relaxed country-road cruises. And if you dare leave your Z06 with a valet, there’s a setting that keeps track of any nefarious activities the car-parker might try.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

While the regular C8 Corvette only has a handful a driver assistance technology, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, we expect those features to be available on the Z06. For more information about the MODEL’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Chevy provides all of its models with a middle of the road limited and powertrain warranty. While the company offers more complimentary maintenance than automakers who skip the free service altogether, it’s one of the shortest such plans in the industry.

  •  Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  • Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit

2022 Chevrolet Traverse at Stuart Beach in South Florida.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse Pricing, Specs, and Review

Chevrolet’s handsome minivan-alternative—the 2022 Traverse SUV—has enough capability to negotiate snowy roads and plenty of space to make road trips comfortable for the whole family. A 3.6-liter V-6 provides ample power, and it proved relatively fuel efficient in our testing; front-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is optional. The Traverse is one of the bigger options in the mid-size SUV class and boasts one of the largest cargo areas, outdoing key rivals such as the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, and the Kia Telluride.

What’s New for 2022?

Chevrolet has given its three-row Traverse a light refresh for the 2022 model year that includes revised exterior styling and a host of new standard driver-assistance features. Among them are automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlamps. An 8.0-inch display inside the gauge cluster is now an available tech option, and new upholstery designs dress up the interior. This update to Chevy’s mid-size, three-row SUV was originally intended for the 2021 model year, but has been delayed to 2022 because of the global Coronavirus pandemic.

2022 Chevy Traverse Interior

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The mid-range LT model represents the best value among the Traverse’s six-trim lineup as it adds nice-to-haves such as second-row captain’s chairs, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, SiriusXM satellite radio, fog lamps, heated exterior mirrors, and roof rails. If you’d like something a little fancier without going up to the much more expensive Premier or High Country models, the LT trim offers a Leather package which adds a power-adjustable passenger’s seat, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a power rear liftgate, and more.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse V-6 Engine

2022 Chevrolet Traverse V-6 Engine

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

A standard 310 horsepower V-6 engine gives the Traverse its legs, and a slick-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission changes gears unobtrusively. The V-6 pulls strongly; a Traverse we tested proved to be on the quicker end of its class. The cabin is so quiet that you need to steal a glance at the tachometer to ensure the engine is running while at a stoplight. Speaking of which, the Traverse features what is perhaps the most seamless automatic stop/start feature we’ve tested. When parking or maneuvering at low speed, the Traverse feels every bit its size. Pick up the pace, however, and the big Chevy feels smaller than it is—poised, if not overtly athletic. Steering effort is low, but the system is precise and makes aiming the big SUV easy. The Traverse’s suspension is tuned for a good balance between handling and ride comfort.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Judge the Traverse by its class-average EPA-estimated fuel-economy numbers, and you’d be doing so with only half the information. In our real-world testing, the all-wheel-drive Traverse High Country delivered 27 mpg, the best highway fuel consumption among its key competitors. For more information about the Traverse’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

2022 Chevy Traverse Cargo Trunk Space Area

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Traverse provides spacious accommodations for seven or eight passengers, including a third row sized for adults. Chevrolet’s six-tier model lineup allows the Traverse to reach a broad swath of the market and appeal to a wide range of buyers. The materials in the top-level High Country are handsome but fall slightly short of expectations given that version’s lofty price. Fold down the second- and third-row seats and it becomes a cargo-hauling champ with more space than any of its rivals. Six carry-on suitcases fit behind the third row, which means it wins at carrying both people and their luggage. It offers the most first-row cubby storage in its class as well.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Chevy blessed the Traverse’s cabin with a bounty of USB ports and an easy-to-use infotainment system with colorful graphics, a high-mounted touchscreen, and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. An infotainment system that responds quickly to user inputs and a standard Wi-Fi hotspot make this a tech-savvy SUV.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Unfortunately, the most advanced driver-assistance features are only available on the two highest-priced trims (some rivals offer these features as standard). For more information about the Traverse’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  •  Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  •  Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The only thing that distinguishes the Traverse from its peers in terms of maintenance coverage is a free initial maintenance visit. Otherwise, the warranty coverage offered by Chevrolet is average for the segment.

  •  Limited warranty covers 3 years or 36,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit

2022 Chevrolet Equinox Review, Specs, and Pricing

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is among the most popular compact crossovers, but mass consumption doesn’t mean it’s truly compelling. Sure, the Chevy has plentiful passenger room, a feature-laden infotainment system, and athletic handling. However, it falls short in terms of interior quality and storage space compared with its competitors. While all-wheel drive is widely available, only the Equinox’s more powerful four-cylinder option delivers proper propulsion. That desirable engine upgrade combined with any of the costlier trim levels push prices into expensive territory. Still, people who are committed to the bow-tie brand and unfazed by mediocrity will appreciate the 2022 Equinox.

This update to Chevy’s compact SUV was originally intended for the 2021 model year, but has been delayed to 2022 because of the global Coronavirus pandemic.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Chevy hasn’t announced pricing for the 2022 Equinox, but we expect each model to cost slightly more when it goes on sale this fall. Although the lineup adds the stylized RS at the top of the pecking order, we’d still recommend the mid-level LT. It comes standard with chrome exterior trim, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, high-intensity discharge headlights, SiriusXM satellite radio, and more. Since we’re not fans of the standard four-cylinder engine, we’d upgrade to the more potent 2.0-liter turbo option. Those who want all-wheel drive can add it for $1600. We’d also opt for the Confidence and Convenience package, which includes blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power liftgate, rear cross-traffic alert, and remote start.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Underpowered and frequently out of breath, the base turbo four-cylinder engine won’t win any fans with its sluggish performance. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder makes 170 horsepower, and when paired with the optional (and heavier) all-wheel-drive system (front-wheel drive is standard), it takes a heavy foot to hustle the Equinox up to highway speeds. A larger, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is optional and far better suited to the Equinox’s weight.

The EPA estimates that the front-wheel-drive Equinox with the base four-cylinder will earn 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Adding all-wheel drive reduces both ratings by 1 mpg. Switch to the bigger four-cylinder engine and its fuel-economy estimates drop to 22 mpg city and 29 highway for front-drive models; all-wheel-drive versions share a city rating and should earn 28 mpg highway. We subjected both Equinox engines to our 75-mph real-world fuel-economy test route. The smaller engine with front-wheel drive returned 32 mpg on the highway and we saw 28 mpg with all-wheel-drive version. Equipped with the larger engine and all-wheel drive, the Equinox achieved 30 mpg in our test.

Aside from a capacious center-console storage bin, the Equinox’s cabin storage is merely average.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Equinox comes with a wide range of standard and optional driver-assistance technology. For more information about the Equinox’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  •  Standard lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning
  •  Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Chevy’s basic warranty package is just that—basic—but so is the coverage of its competitors. The Kia Sportage and its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Tuscon, both offer longer protection plans.
